Completely redesigned from the ground up, the new

Scalable family is the direct successor to the Intel®

Xeon® processor E5 and E7 lines. Intel® has embedded

“unique features” for compute, network and storage

workloads, along with significant performance gains

of up to 3.9 times higher in scalability for virtualized

workloads. This latest generation processor is

designed for performance with high scalability and

resiliency with no I/O compromise, and supports a

wide range of existing and emerging workloads. The Intel® Xeon® Scalable Processor Family brings forth a number of key processor advancements:

  • Intel® AVX-512 packs eight double precision and sixteen single precision floating numbers within the 512-bit vectors, as well as eight 64-bit and sixteen 32-bit integers.
  • Intel® QuickAssist Technology (Intel® QAT) delivers up to 100Gbps performance for authentication, public key functions, and compression/decompression workloads.
  • Intel® Omni-Path Architecture integration, delivering 100Gbps port bandwidth for improved performance and lower latency in medium to large clusters.
  • Intel® Ultra Path Interconnect (formerly Keizer Technology Interconnect) will replace Intel® QPI used in previous generations. Intel® UPI (10.4 GT/s) offers increased bandwidth, performance and messaging efficiency over Intel® QPI (9.6 GT/s).
  • Memory Capacity and Bandwith increase, up to 6 channels of DDR4 2666 MHz RDIMM/LRDIMM memory supported.
  • Intel® Integrated I/O performance has been increased to 48 lanes of PCIe, an increase from 40 and 32 lanes from Broadwell E5 and E7 families respectively.
  • Integrated 10G Ethernet with RDMA eliminates TCP/IP overhead by offloading transport to NIC for faster switching and packet filtering.

Intel® AVX-512

Intel® AVX-512 is a set of new instructions that can accelerate performance for workloads and usages such as scientific simulations, financial analytics, artificial intelligence (AI)/deep learning, 3D modeling and analysis, image and audio/video processing, cryptography and data compression.

With ultra-wide 512-bit vector operations capabilities, Intel® AVX-512 can handle your most demanding computational tasks. Applications can pack eight double precision and sixteen single precision floating numbers within the 512-bit vectors, as well as eight 64-bit and sixteen 32-bit integers. This enables the workload to achieve more work per CPU cycle (with double the width of data registers) and helps to minimize latency and overhead (with double the number of registers), compared to Intel® Advanced Vector Extensions 2.0 (Intel® AVX2).
